Former OK! editor Nic McCarthy has been appointed editor of Haymarket Consumer Media’s women’s monthly, Eve.
McCarthy will join Haymarket in January 2008 to replace Sara Cremer, who, after three years editing Eve, will take up the position of editorial director at Redwood Publishing.
McCarthy began editing OK! In 2001, leaving in 2004 to jet to America where she was appointed of executive editor at celebrity title Us Weekly. She then moved on to be OK!’s international celebrity director in New York, eventually returning to London to have her second child in February of last year.
In June 2006, McCarthy took up the post of new product development editor at EMAP, but left in July this year to work as a freelance magazine and digital consultant.
McCarthy said: ‘I am absolutely thrilled to be the new editor of Eve. As a longtime fan of the magazine, I have always admired its truly original style and content. It will be a privilege and a pleasure to work with the talented, first-class team at Eve and Haymarket in making the magazine an even bigger success over the coming years. I relish the challenge of making a real impact on the newsstand and rolling out the brand globally, in print and online.”
Haymarket Consumer Media managing director Kevin Costello added: ‘Nic is a fantastic appointment for us, bringing a wealth of experience, deep market knowledge and a crystal clear view of the eve reader. We have already developed a strong platform from which to build the business and Nic’s ambitious creative vision for Eve in print and beyond will ensure the brand goes from strength to strength”.
Haymarket acquired eve from BBC Magazines January 2005. During Cremer’s reign Eve enjoyed six consecutive circulation rises, recording a monthly circulation of 163,415 for the first half of 2007.
