Monthly football magazine, Cacio Italia, reaches its 150th issue this month as it celebrates securing a new two-year contract with Anthum Publishers.
Calcio Italia targets English-speaking fans of Italian football, and originally started as Football Italia in 1992 as an add-on to the Channel 4 series of the same name. After Channel 4 opted out of coverage of the Italian leagues in 2002 the publication rebranded as independent title Calcio Italia.
JTD Sports Productions provides all editorial content and design for the magazine which is now owned by Anthem Publishing and has a claimed newsstand circulation of 25,000 in the UK and 10,000 in Europe. JTD also provides content for Channel 4’s Football Italia website and Five’s online Italian football coverage.
Oner of JDT, John Taylor, is a former newspaper journalist and TV sports producer who first put Football Italia on air with Chrysalis Television in 1992.
His company has a staff of 26 journalists, eight permanent and a large number freelancers based all over Italy.
He said: ‘It could have been all doom and gloom when C4 originally axed coverage. But with increased coverage elsewhere since the success in Europe of Serie A clubs, the Italian national team’s glory in winning the World Cup and the more recent appointment of Italian Fabio Capello as head coach of the England team, we’re on a high. Here’s to the next 150 issues.”
