Future launches UK versions of tech websites Kotaku and Lifehacker

Future has partnered with Gawker Media to launch UK-based versions of the websites Kotaku and Lifehacker.

Kotaku is described as ‘culture brand’ for computer gaming and claims to reach 11.5 million unique users a month.

Lifehacker is a site which is “dedicated to living life better in the digital age” and claims 22.7m unique users per month, includimng 1.6m in the UK.

The new sites will be published under licence. Dedicated editors have been announced with more editorial recruits expected.

In 2011 Future worked with Gawker Media to launch a UK version of its technology lifestyle website Gizmodo.

Future UK managing director Nial Ferguson said: “This is great news for us at Future as Kotaku grows the online reach we have within the Games market to a phenomenal 3.3 million monthly users, while Lifehacker grows our online reach in the Technology market to a staggering 6.8 million monthly users, but more importantly increases our coverage of the Business Technology market.:

Kotaku UK will be edited by Keza MacDonald, who was UK Games Editor of IGN from June 2011 to January 2014.

Lifehacker UK site will be edited by Dan Grabham, who is currently associate editor of TechRadar, Future’s technology reviews website.

Gizmodo UK editor Kat Hannaford is being promoted to the role of senior editor, Gizmodo UK & Gawker Partnership.

Kotaku UK will be the fourth international edition of the site, following the launch of versions in Japan, Brazil and Australia. Lifehacker also has localised in Japan and Australia.
