A digital journalist who survived a rare form of leukaemia has beaten off international competition to be named best medical blogger at the Weblog Awards in Las Vegas.
Adrian Sudbury, a former digital editor for the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, won the best medical/health category at the ceremony last week.
The awards are the highlight of the annual Blogworld and New Media Expo, held at the Las Vegas Convention Centre, and are voted for by the public.
Sudbury’s Baldy Blog chronicled in great detail the various treatments he underwent, including a bone marrow transplant, and used video, pictures and the writer’s own medical knowledge to explain complicated science.
Although he could not pick up the award in person, Sudbury said he was ‘delighted’to win.
He said: ‘It’s a brilliant result. The way my friends, family, colleagues, people from Huddersfield and people who have been reading my blog around the world got behind me and supported me has been incredible.”
Sudbury won the Guild of Health Writers Best Online Feature Award last month.
