BBC News presenters, including Huw Edwards and Fiona Bruce, have been sent packages containing human excrement, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.
Police have been unable to trace the culprit, who apparently smears a fecal sample on a piece of toilet tissue.
The practice has been going on “for years”, according to a household name presenter quoted anonymously by The Sun.
“Most people on the network have had them – the likes of Fiona Bruce and Huw Edwards,” they said.
“There is usually a piece of folded up toilet paper inside with a smear of feces on it, as if they’ve used a finger and were getting some kind of pleasure from it.
“It’s really neatly done and you can just imagine the thrill the weirdo got from doing it.”
They added: “To begin with you feel really embarrassed – like you must have done something to deserve it. Then you realise everyone is getting them.
The BBC said in its response to The Sun FoI request: “During the past three years the BBC Investigation Service has received a number of complaints of excrement being sent to staff and talent at several BBC locations.
“We can confirm that some of the samples have been tested and found to be human.
“These offences have been reported to the police.”
