Rajar: Talk 107 goes backwards

By Rachael Gallagher

The only commercial talk radio station outside of London has got off to a shaky start since its launch in last year.

Scottish talk station Talk 107, which launched last February, has lost almost 40 per cent of its listeners since last quarter.

Quarterly radio listening figures from Rajar show that while Talk 107 is up year on year from 16,000 listeners to 26,000, it has still dipped from the 43,000 listeners it pulled in last quarter.

The disappointing figure for the UTV-owned station is a significantly lower than its original first-year target of 140,000 listeners.

Meanwhile, Real Radio Scotland is celebrating its highest ever listener figures. The station, which has a 24-hour newsroom and runs a nightly discussion show, is now heard by 771,000 people a week.
