PA appoints Alan Marshall as new group managing editor

By Press Gazette

Alan Marshall has been named as the Press Association's new group managing editor.

Marshall has held several senior roles at PA and was most recently head of projects, when he oversaw PA's digital content and product teams.

He replaces John Spencer, who left PA at the end of August. Over the last year Marshall has overseen the launch of PA's syndicated live-blogging services, which include breaking news coverage and sports commentaries.

Before joining the company he was a producer for the Sky News website.

In a statement PA said that in his new role Marshall will 'work with PA's newsgathering operations to develop content strategies and co-ordinate processes between editorial content, technology and product development, in order to ensure that PA's products and services continue to meet the rapidly changing content needs of its customers".

He will also manage editorial projects around major events including the London 2012 Olympics, for which PA is the host national news agency.

PA managing director Tony Watson said: 'Alan's strong digital background makes him perfectly placed to take on the role of group managing editor.

'The requirements of our customers are constantly evolving as consumers find new and innovative ways to consume content, and it is vital that our products and services continue to anticipate these changes.

'By leading a fully coordinated approach across the group, Alan will ensure that we make full use of all the high quality content we have available, and that it is delivered to customers in a form that suits their needs."
