Johnston Press web man retires

By Press Gazette

The media executive who built Johnston Press‘ £15m-a-year online operation and launched more than 300 websites retired from the company last week.

John Bradshaw set up the company’s digital operations in 1996. Twelve years later, Johnston Press claimed that at the end of 2007, digital operations contributed more than £15m to its revenue.

Bradshaw launched a series of free newspapers in the Seventies that were later sold to Emap, and held the post of managing director of the Peterborough Evening Telegraph in 1985, and group MD of Thomson Free Newspapers in 1989.

He rejoined Emap in 1993 and set up the digital division, then, in 1999, Johnston Press acquired Emap’s local newspaper arm.
