Two founders of the Wannabe Hacks blog have won journalism enterprise competition MyNewsBiz run by Kingston University.
Nick Petrie (who works as a community manager at the Telegraph) and Ben Whitelaw (a content coordinator at The Guardian) will get £1,000 pounds to help start up their business. With their company Visualist, they want to teach the skills needed to do data journalism in smaller newsrooms.
The second prize of £500 was awarded to four Kingston University students for their plan to set up a cooking magazine for men.
Natalie Mason, Philip Andreas, Lily Meyer and Ellie Pullen plan to set up Relish – a name the judges loved – aimed at the modern man.
MyNewsBiz was set up by Kingston University to encourage students to think in different ways about their careers in journalism.
