Stuart Millar has been appointed as the new editor of Buzzfeed UK, replacing Janine Gibson.
Millar joined Buzzfeed UK as head of news in 2015 after 19 years at the Guardian, where he started as a reporter and left as head of news.
He worked as Gibson’s deputy editor for Guardian US and followed her to Buzzfeed. Gibson joined the Financial Times last month.
Buzzfeed said Millar will “play a key role in the brand’s expansion” and “shape the site’s journalism focusing on British and European politics, social justice, social news and celebrity content”.
Buzzfeed UK is part of Buzzfeed News, based in the US. It will launch a new weekly TV review show on Twitter, #What2Watch, next month.
Ben Smith, BuzzFeed News editor-in-chief said: “Stuart is an astonishing editor and he’s made our team in the UK central to the key stories of this moment for a whole new generation of news consumers.
“His command of how hard news and cultural moments alike play in this new environment is exactly what BuzzFeed UK needs as it enters its next phase.”
