- Former Premier League footballer Garry Flitcroft said he ‘strongly suspected’the Sunday People hacked his phone to obtain details over an extra-marital affair – but could provide no evidence to back up the controversial claim.
- The Attorney General won permission to bring contempt of court proceedings against the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror over their coverage of Levi Bellfield‘s conviction for the murder and abduction of Walton-on-Thames schoolgirl Milly Dowler.
- The Guardian was forced to apologise to News International after claiming on its front page that a reporter from The Sun was sent to doorstep a barrister involved in the Leveson Inquiry.
- Comedian Steve Coogan claimed his extramarital affair was exposed in a ‘dispassionate, sociopathic’sting by former News of the World showbiz reporter Rav Singh and former editor Andy Coulson.
- Northcliffe Media claimed that readership of the Torquay Herald Express was up 47 per cent since it changed to a weekly title in June.
- The Culture Committee asked former News of the World chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck to enter in as evidence a piece he wrote for Press Gazette on the hacking scandal.
- Trinity Mirror has announced that the Liverpool Daily Post is to switch from a daily to weekly publication in the New Year.
- Media Wales, the publisher of the Western Mail is cutting another 14 jobs including three production journalists and two photographers.
- Mail Online hit a new website traffic record for a UK national newspaper website in October as it reached 79 million ‘unique browsers’.
- Northcliife Media has announced proposals to close the Medway News and East Kent Gazette – two of the seven titles it tried selling to the KM Group last month.
