Newsreader claiming race, sex and age discrimination sues ITV for £5m

By Press Gazette

A female newsreader who has accused a colleague of mimicking black TV presenters is suing ITV for £5 million on grounds of race, sex and age discrimination.

Lisa Aziz claims that Steve Scott regularly put on Pakistani and Irish accents to ‘demean’his colleagues.
It was also reported that he impersonated News at Ten anchor Trevor McDonald, the Telegraph said.

An internal ITV investigation cleared Scott, a former Africa correspondent who often presents ITV News at the weekend, after he said impressions of his colleagues were done in jest and were in no way intended to be racist.

He co-presented ITV West Country in Bristol with Aziz until she was suspended from her £160,000-a-year post in July pending an investigation into alleged ‘misuse’ of some of her expenses.

Aziz claims she was ‘set up’by senior ITV managers on a false charge as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
