Sam Lister, parliamentary correspondent for the Press Association’s Lobby Extra, has been appointed chairman of Newspaper Conference, the Newspaper Society’s membership group for the London editors and political correspondents of regional newspapers.
Lister started her career as a trainee reporter with the Stockport Express and joined the Tameside Advertiser as senior reporter in 2001. She later moved into reporting on local politics with the Liverpool Daily Post.
In addition to Lobby Extra, she writes for the Belfast Telegraph, Bristol Evening Post and North Wales Daily Post.
Lister said: ‘It is vital that politicians understand the issues facing the local media industry and the Newspaper Conference plays a key role in ensuring regular access to the most senior government ministers.”
The Newspaper Conference was set up by the Newspaper Society to give regional reporters the opportunity to address MPs directly on issues of regional and national concern.
Lister succeeds Matt Chorley in the role, London editor of the Western Morning News.
