The New York Times is expected to announce in the coming days the introduction of a paywall preventing users from accessing its digital content unless they pay for access.
Sources close to Arthur Sulzberger Jr, chairman of The New York Times, said the paper would make a decision on charging within the next few days – The Telegraph reported.
The New York Times is understood to favour a system similar to that adopted by the Financial Times, which allows readers to access some articles for free before they are forced to subscribe.
A spokeswoman for the New York Times said: “We’ll announce a decision when we believe that we have crafted the best possible business approach. No details till then.”
