Guardian News and Media has created its first downloadable application for the newly launched Apple iPad.
Although the iPad is still unavailable in the UK, the Guardian Eyewitness Photography app is now available to download, the company said today.
The free app, launched in conjunction with Canon, is aimed at showcasing the recent images from The Guardian’s Eyewitness daily series of photographs.
The app allows users to save and share favourite images. Each image is also accompanied by a “pro-tip” for professional insight into how the picture was crafted.
The launch of the iPad app follows the successful launch by GMN of a Guardian news iPhone app created. That app was downloaded more than 100,000 times in the first four months, 9,000 within the first two days of the launch.
Other media groups are following are developing apps in preparation for the iPad launch in the UK.
Paparazzi news agency, Splash, has also created an iPad app to showcase its breaking celebrity news.
