The former director and chief executive of the Audit Bureau of Circulations Kenneth Derbyshire has died aged 88.
Derbyshire was director and chief executive at ABC from 1970 up until his retirement in 1986.
His career in newspapers began in 1939 when he joined Allied Newspapers Manchester as branch office assistant, and included spells at the Daily Mirror and Temple Press.
From 1972-74 he was also Secretary General of the International Federation of Audit Bureaux of Circulations (IFABC), and continued on its executive committee for a further 12 years.
Between 1981-85 he was chairman of the European sector of IFABC and in 1982 was a made a fellow of the Communication, Advertising & Marketing Foundation.
In 1986 he was awarded the IFABC Award of Merit and received honourable life membership upon his retirement.
His son Steve said his father died suddenly but peacefully at home on Thursday, 21 April.
