Financial Times to put its archive online

By Press Gazette

The Financial Times is to put almost 120 years of news coverage on the web by making its entire achieve available digitally.

Educational publisher Cengage Learning has digitised more than three quarters of a million pages stretching back from its launch of the paper in 1888 to the end of 2006.

The move will mean that every item printed in the paper during that period can be searched and browsed article by article and page by page.

The archive, which will be launched today at the Online Information Show at Olympia, will become operational in mid-January for subscription or one-off purchase to libraries – the Guardian reported.

Cengage has previously digitised the archives of the Times and the Economist. It has also but the British Library’s archive of 19 Century newspapers online.
