Duo behind local Manchester website split citing ‘professional differences’

By andrew

A Manchester-based local news website set up in competition with the Manchester Evening News has apparently hit stormy waters.

Co-founder Louise Bolotin revealed yesterday that she resigned from Inside the M60 with immediate effect, citing professional differences with co-owner Nigel Barlow.

Barlow will remain at the helm while he makes a decision on the future of the website, according to a statement sent out by Bolotin yesterday.

Inside the M60 was launched in April 2010 with the ambitious goal of taking on the Manchester Evening News.

In her statement Bolotin said:

We have both worked extremely hard over the past 12 months to establish Inside the M60 as a serious alternative news site for Manchester and have proved it could be done.

We have built a strong brand with a loyal readership that has carved its own niche in the Manchester media scene. Sadly, we have had our differences and decided it is no longer possible to work together.

I respect Nigel as a journalist enormously and I also value his friendship highly. I am pleased we are parting as friends and he has my blessing to continue with Inside the M60.

Barlow added:

I wish Louise all the success in her future journalistic career and have enjoyed working alongside her over the past 12 months. The site will continue for now.

The statement added that neither Bolotin or Barlow were available for further comment.
