Daily Telegraph appoints “formidable” senior reporter

By Press Gazette

The Daily Telegraph has recruited another high-profile journalist from a Fleet Street rival. The Sunday Times’s Robert Winnett, 30, is the Telegraph’s latest addition and will take on the role of senior reporter.

He was nominated twice for Scoop of the Year at Press Gazette’s British Press Awards, and made the shortlist last year for his coverage of the government cash for honours scandal. He was also part of the winning Team of the Year at this year’s awards.

Telegraph editor Will Lewis said: ‘I worked with Robert at the Sunday Times where he showed himself to be a formidable investigative journalist. I am delighted he will be joining out team.”

The paper also announced today that home news editor Philip Johnston has been promoted to assistant editor.

Earlier this week it was announced that George Jones, the paper’s political editor, would leave the Telegraph in August to be replaced by The Sun’s deputy political editor Andrew Porter.
