Chris Bullivant has apologised to the freelance journalists who were collectively left £37,000 out of pocket when the company behind the short-lived Birmingham Press newspaper folded.
Thirty-eight creditors are owed a total of £347,000 by CJB Media, the company established by Bullivant.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the local newspaper entrepreneur admitted to a creditors meeting last week that it was ‘outrageous’that some freelances had not been paid, saying he did not know that was the case and he apologised for their losses.
Despite the apology Bullivant is facing calls for a Government inquiry into the collapse of CJB Media.
Freelance Sally Jones told the Mail that she thought it was important ‘the Department of Business looks very closely into the behaviour of Mr Bullivant over CJB Media”.
