News UK merges Times, Sunday Times and Sun ad sales roles

News UK may have ruled out merging the editorial teams of the Times and Sunday Times – but that hasn't stopped it restructuring the commercial side of the business.

The legal undertakings given by Rupert Murdoch when he bought the Times titles in 1981 safeguard their editorial independence.

Here are details of the new sales structure working across The Times, Sunday Times and Sun titles (press release):

Previously Group Sales Manager for The Sun, David will be responsible for accelerating the development of News UK Commercial’s sales proposition; enabling his team to sell their audiences and media to the wider agency planning community. The appointment marks the latest phase in restructuring the News UK Commercial sales teams which has included:

· Chris Turner appointed as Head of Title Management
· Tammy Willson appointed as Head of Lifestyle
· Oliver Lewis appointed as Head of Digital:
· Graeme Symon appointed as Head of Trading

The restructure was a result of the company’s move towards customer-focused, multi-channel ad sales which would deliver their clients more targeted and bespoke advertising campaigns.

Brendan Judge, Sales Director for News UK Commercial, commented: “We created the position of Head of News last year and I’m pleased that we have been able to appoint the successful candidate from our own pool of talent.

“Our new strategy has been to focus on a platform agnostic approach so that we can offer our clients edition-led audience opportunities rather than advertising spaces dictated by our title portfolio.

“I am positive that David will rise to the challenge that this crucial role provides.”
