Heather Mills, the soon-to-be former wife of Sir Paul McCartney, and the publishers of The Sun, the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard have settled libel and privacy actions launched by the former model.
Mills launched the actions after the newspapers ran stories in October 2006 which were based on leaked divorce documents disclosing intimate details of her marriage breakdown.
The settlement was announced on Monday, soon after Mr Justice Bennett, sitting in the Family Division of the High Court, pronounced a decree nisi on the grounds that the pair had been separated for two years.
The decree will become absolute, ending the marriage, in six weeks.
Mills recently won a £24.3 million settlement from McCartney as part of the divorce proceedings. She had originally sought about £125 million.
The settlement of the libel and privacy actions was announced in a statement issued on behalf of all the parties by solicitors Farrer and Co, which represented News Group Newspapers, publisher of The Sun.
It read: “The libel and privacy claims brought by Heather Mills McCartney against the Daily Mail, the Evening Standard and The Sun have been stayed on terms satisfactory to the parties.
“The terms of settlement remain confidential and the parties along with Sir Paul McCartney will be making no further public statement or comment on the actions, the staying of the claims or the terms of settlement.”
Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail and Evening Standard, was represented in the actions by solicitors Reynolds Porter Chamberlain.
