Police investigating allegations of computer hacking have arrested a man in Newcastle on suspicion of business espionage.
The 48-year-old was arrested by officers from the Met’s Operation Tuleta investigating criminal breaches of privacy and is “not linked to any news organisation or the activities of journalists,” according to police.
He was arrested at business premises in the Newcastle at 10 on conspiracy to commit offences under Sections 1 and 3 of the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and Sections 1 and 2 Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.
He is being questioned at a Northumberland police station. The Met said: “Searches are being carried out at the business premises where he was arrested and his home address in Northumberland.
“The arrest relates suspected business espionage and is not directly linked to any news organisation or the activities of journalists.”
This is the 17th arrest made by Operation Tuleta.
