Video: Pimp my blog, how to give your website some oomph

I learned more about online publishing in an hour and a half at City University’s Pimp My Blog panel discussion on Tuesday night than in a couple of years trial and error experimentation at the coalface.

The panel (which I should add was organised by me as a Visiting Fellow at City) was filmed by the BBC College of Journalism.

The speakers all had loads of advice to give: Tim Glanfield on building Beehive City from nothing to a media website with 300,000 unique users a month; Patrick Smith from The Media Briefing on why blogging is a dirty word; Karl Schneider from RBI with a brilliantly handy list of free embeddable apps; and Martin Stabe on why great journalists need to first learn how to be great readers in the digital age.

Here are the videos, and once I have put the December print edition of Press Gazette to bed (tomorrow) I’ll be doing a couple more in-depth blog posts on this subject – with plenty of nuts and bolts handy hints.
