Independent writer John Rentoul has come up with a wonderful list of words or phrases that need to be retired with his “banned list”.
From “It’s the economy stupid” to the suffix “-gate” via “a raft of”, “perfect storm”, “not fit for purpose” and a plethora of other over-used phrases – this is a list in the spirit of George Orwell’s famous rules on writing.
Super stuff, and well worth a read for anyone looking to freshen up their writing in the New Year.
