Press Gazette September issue out now

Press Gazette, September 2008Press Gazette’s first monthly issue is out today. It kicks off with an exclusive interview with Trinity Mirror chief executive Sly Bailey. It’s the first time in her five years as boss of the UK’s biggest newspaper publisher that Bailey has given Press Gazette an interview.

She hits back at the newspaper industry doom-mongers – and explains why City analysts, who have been talking down media shares, have got it wrong. Bailey says: ‘We have survived two world wars, the Great Depression, the launch of multichannel television, the dot.com boom and bust and we are still here.”

We also ask her: why pay is so low in the regional press, how bad the current downturn is going to get and whether she now regrets ‘cancelling Christmas”.
