‘Not everyone has a computer,’fulminated a recent Bristol Evening Post comment column about a whingeing pensioner missing out on an online discount because she insisted on settling her phone bills by cash or cheque.
Phone users should not be ‘penalised for their lack of internet access”, said the leader.
A reader poll on the issue asked: ‘Do you think people who don’t pay their bills online should be charged extra?’Votes were invited via the Post website, free of charge, or via mobile phone text.
Sadly for luddite pensioners, no option was offered for voting by post, or walking into Evening Post reception in person and saying ‘Charge Yes’or ‘Charge No”. Oh well, at least Post readers can make up for the cost of their phone vote by paying their bill online.
