Croydon Advertiser editor Glenn Ebrey steps down, role divided between existing editors

By Dominic Ponsford

Croydon Advertiser editor Glenn Ebrey is stepping down and his role is to be divided up between existing staff.

The move is part of a shake-up which will see two reporters and one digital writer recruited, publisher Local World told Press Gazette.

Ebrey has been in charge of the day-to-day running of the Croydon Advertiser and also overseen the other titles in the East Surrey and Sussex group.

Deanne Blaylock and Andrew Worden (pictured) have now been appointed as senior editors in charge of the various titles in the group.

Worden will add the Croydon Advertiser to his responsibilities (he already edits the free Crawley News and paid-for East Grinstead Courier). The Croydon Advertiser has a weekly paid-for circulation of 8,441 according to ABC, with a further 22,000 free copies distributed every week.

Blaylock continues as senior editor in charge of the paid-for Surrey Mirror and Dorking and Leatherhead Advertiser titles.

Ebrey said: “I have loved my time at the Advertiser and it has been a genuine honour and privilege to edit a title with such a prestigious history and place in its community.

“I am leaving with a heavy heart but with a young family to look after and my priorities changing, I feel this is the right time to move in a different direction with my career.”

Richard Karn, managing director of the South East division which includes East Surrey and Sussex News and Media, said: “We are really sorry to lose Glenn who has led the editorial team through a period of substantial change and challenge with great skill and good humour.

“Both Andy and Dee fully deserve this chance of career development and it is always motivating to be able to reward capable colleagues with a new challenge. At the same time the moves will create opportunities throughout the department.”
