Times and Sunday Times best performing national newspapers in November

By Dominic Ponsford

The Times and Sunday Times were the top-performing national print newspapers last month.

The Times was the only UK national newspaper to increase sales year on year. Its free ‘bulk’ copies were level year on year at around 22,000, so it can claim a genuine paid-for sales increase.

The Sunday Times was the best-performing Sunday newspaper in relative terms, falling 3.8 per cent year on year to 804,042. Its bulks are also roughly level year on year at around 11,000.

Every other national newspaper lost print sales last month at a rate of more than 5 per cent year on year.

After seeing a levelling off in its print sales decline, The Guardian suffered a sharp year on year dip last month – down 10.9 per cent year on year to 177,815.  Its weekday price is now £1.60, compared with £1.40 a year ago and £1.20 for The Times.

The Times titles picked up seven out of 14 prizes at the British Journalism Awards on Tuesday night.
