DC Thomson looks to cut 12 magazine staff

By Press Gazette

DC Thomson is looking to make 12 staff redundant at its magazines division (consumer entertainment) as part of a process which as seen 30 put at risk of redundancy.

Magazines published by the Dundee-based company include The People's Friend, Scots Magazine and Scottish Wedding Directory. DC Thomson also publishes The Beano and regional newspapers including the Press and Journal.

DC Thomson chief executive Ellis Watson said: “Over the past few months, the company has been reviewing the efficiency of our business in three separate areas. As a result of this review, a number of roles within the business are affected by a change in location or organisational restructure.

“Nine finance roles in Aberdeen and six finance roles in Redhill will move to Dundee. Eight roles within the company’s enterprise department are at risk of redundancy, because of outsourcing proposals. Within our consumer entertainment business, there will be up to twelve fewer roles as we look at the most efficient structure to meet the needs of the competitive marketplace.

“The company will discuss all options with its affected employees individually and we will work with our staff members to ensure the best possible outcome for each individual during this transition period.”

DC Thomson head of publishing (consumer entertainment) Neil O'Brien said: "Around 30 roles are at risk in DC Thomson's Consumer Entertainment business. A proposed restructure means that some editorial, art department and graphic design posts are affected across the company's magazine titles. The company anticipates it will need up to twelve fewer roles as a result and is in consultation with affected staff members."
