Weekly business magazine for commercial media owners, media agencies and advertisers, owned by Haymarket Business Media.
Editor: Steve Barrett
Pitch to: Harriet Dennys, features editor: harriet.dennys @haymarket.com.
Type of articles: A lead feature and a profile each week, about ten supplements a year on different sectors of the media industry, and regular sections including careers, working abroad and the Media Bitch diary page. The majority of the main features and supplement features are commissioned out to freelances at between 1,400 and 2,000 words.
How to pitch: Look at the forward features list online at www.mediaweek.co.uk and email me if you are keen to write on that topic and have ideas for an angle. Magazine main features are commissioned at least five weeks ahead of publication, and the supplements are commissioned two months ahead, so best to get in early.
Post-pitch: Give me a ring if you haven’t heard back after a couple of days.
What will impress: Someone who has been reading the magazine and keeping up with developments in commercial media, and who has thought about what people working at media agencies, media owners and clients want to read in it.
What won’t impress: People who think Media Week is a magazine for journalists or a general culture magazine – we don’t do film reviews or the business of being a journalist. Don’t send entire articles or transcripts of interviews. Ideas for features and profiles need an angle and an explanation of why we should cover this topic or person now.
Rate: Freelance features are commissioned at £250 per 1,000 words.
Images: No. Pictures would be in the brief if the feature goes ahead.
