The family of Surrey-based photojournalist Anton Hammerl, killed in Libya by pro-Gaddafi forces on 5 April, are to hold memorial service in his honour on 8 September at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, from 3pm.
Hammerl, 41, went to Libya in March to cover the unfolding conflict there as a freelance. After going missing on 5 April, his family, thinking that he was detained by Libyan government in Tripoli, mounted a campaign for his release.
In late May they learnt that on he was killed in the desert, just outside of Brega, on the day he went missing when a group of journalists came under fire from pro-Gaddafi forces. His body has yet to be found.
