The Sun has taken its Bizarre celebrity column digital today by launching it as a smartphone app.
The app aims to provide readers with celebrity news ,gossip and images straight to their iPhones and Android-enabled devices for £1.19 for a 30-day subscription.
The app will feature a ‘Live Gossip’Twitter style feed from the Bizarre team and celebrity guest tweeters – starting today with last year’s X Factor winner Joe McElderry.
Alongside the unique Twitter feeds, other features of the app include film, music and TV news, exclusive Biz bites, and video and photo galleries. Users will also be able to view the print edition of Bizarre from the previous week and that day’s paper.
The Sun follows a well-trodden path of celebrity and lifestyle news outlets launching apps for smartphones.
The launch also comes as the Financial Times claims its free iPad app has brought it more than £1m in advertising revenue since it was launched in May.
The Guardian reported this morning:
‘Ben Hughes, who is also the paper’s [FT] global commercial director, said more than 400,000 subscribers have signed up for the app. He added that it now accounts for 10% of the paper’s new digital subscriptions.”
