Independent New & Media defeated an attempt by rogue shareholder Denis O’Brien to unseat two of its most senior figures yesterday.
At an extraordinary general meeting in Dublin shareholders voted against O’Brien’s proposal to remove chairman Brian Hillery and non-executive director Baroness Jay.
Almost two thirds of votes were against the motion as the board of INM had previously advised.
O’Brien had tabled a series of demands for the EGM including the immediate sale or closure of the Independent and the Independent on Sunday.
