Irish paper pays damages for photo balls-up

By paulmcnally

A local newspaper has paid £8,700 damages to an Irish footballer after it published a match photograph in which his genitals were visible.

The Carlow Nationalist faces £79,000 in legal costs after a lengthy battle with Richard Sinnott, who objected to publication of pics in June 2005.

According to today’s Irish Independent, the judge said it “strained all credulity” that the paper mistakenly published the photo, in which “all the paraphenalia of human reproduction” were on show.
