The Telegraph Media Group has appointed its executive editor for politics, Iain Martin, to head a new department overseeing comment and online community across the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph.co.uk.

In his new role as Head of Comment and Community, Martin will oversee both newspapers’ comment pages as well as the reader comment facilities on the website, including Your View and the reader blogging platform My Telegraph.

Martin, a former editor of the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, has been with the Telegraph group for two years, first as assistant editor and deputy editor of Sunday Telegraph and currently as group executive editor, politics.

His appointment comes as the Telegraph revealed plans to revamp its blogging tools, including My Telegraph, Telegraph.co.uk’s reader blogging platform.

The sites are set to be completely rebuilt by US social network developers ONEsite, Telegraph communities editor Shane Richmond writes on his blog.

In December, the agency behind the launch of My Telegraph, Interesource, went into adminstration forcing the Telegraph to take the hosting and maintainance of the site in-house.
