Press Association executive editor Terry Manners is leaving the agency to become assistant editor at The Times and Sunday Times of Malta.
At PA Manners oversaw the editorial page production team in Howden, Yorkshire, working on content for Trinity Mirror‘s national titles including the Daily Mirror and, more recently, the Daily Record.
Between 2001 to 2005 he was editor of the Western Daily Press, where he picked up a series of awards. He joined from his first stint as associate editor at PA.
Before that he spent 26 years at the Daily Express, including six years as night editor in London before becoming editor moving to Scotland as editor-in-chief.
Manners, who will be based in the Maltese capital Valletta, said Times publishers Allied Newspapers had recently spent £25m on new printing press, offices and editorial staff.
‘They’re the premier titles in Malta and are well-established papers,’Manners told Press Gazette.
‘We’re looking to bring in a new backbench and revamp the whole editorial. Essentially we’re looking to bring the papers into the 21st century.”
Working alongside editor Steve Mallia, Manners is planning to bring in one or two experienced figures from the UK to help oversee the revamp.
He takes up his new role on 1 November.
