The Financial Times has won the coveted Newspaper of the Year award at the British Press Awards.
The judges said the FT ‘has been uncompromising in its core mission, which is to give readers a service which is poised, informed, classy and intelligent and it has done this while increasing its circulation and raising its price.”
The FT, the judges said, is ‘incomparably the best newspaper in the country”.
The Sun and the Daily Mail were both highly commended in the award, which presented on Tuesday night at a ceremony hosted by Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
During the individual awards presented earlier in the evening, two FT journalists collected further awards.
Phillip Stephens was named Political Journalist of the Year, while Gillian Tett won the award for best Business and Finance Journalist.
All the national newspapers are automatically entered into the Newspaper of the Year category, which is voted upon in an academy-style voting system of the more than 100 British Press Awards judges.
