Tribute to Adrian Sudbury

By Press Gazette

‘Brave’is an over-used word in journalism. But it truly applies to Adrian Sudbury. He knew he was going to die, and despite his pain and exhaustion, he kept doing media interviews, writing on his blog and working hard on his Sign Up For Sudders campaign to improve education about bone marrow donation for young people.

Leukaemia may have beaten him in body, but it never beat him in spirit. This irrepressible positivity – and his wicked sense of humour – won Adrian legions of supporters. He chronicled his 18-month battle with cancer on his blog with searing honesty, but was never maudlin and whatever life threw at him, he conducted himself with dignity and professionalism.

Those are the qualities for which his friends will remember him, along with his extremely generous nature and his selflessness.

Adrian achieved more in three months than most of us will in our whole lives. His campaign has left an awareness about bone marrow donation that will save lives – and there’s no better tribute than that.
