Sheffield College is the best journalism school in the UK, according to a league table published by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.
The college’s 25 fast-track students achieved an overall pass rate of 65 per cent in both the preliminary, senior (NCE), and 100wpm shorthand exams last year.
Journalism lecturer Colin Sutherill, said: ‘We put all our efforts into producing hands-on journalists who are hungry for news and have a nose for it”.
This is the first time Sheffield has topped the rankings, knocking last year’s winner, Nottingham Trent University, into second place with 55 per cent.
The course, which has 30 students and is in its eighth year, will from September incorporate the NCTJ‘s online journalism exam, which requires students to write a story for a newspaper’s website.
Cardiff University students achieved the best shorthand results in the country, with 88 per cent achieving 100wpm.
