City University London has been awarded a share of €3m in European Union funding for its two-year masters course in journalism, media and globalisation.
Funding for the “Erasmus Mundus Masters” programme will be available for five years from 2012 with the money split four ways with other European universities.
The majority of the cash will be used to provide Erasmus Mundus Scholarships, with a smaller proportion used for faculty bursaries.
The programme takes on around 80 students a year, each completing an introductory year at Aarhus University in Denmark and the Danish School of Media and Journalism.
Students are then split across four different universities in their second year: City University, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Hamburg and Swansea University.
Non-EU students can apply for bursaries of €48,000 over two years to cover their tuition fees and living costs and EU students can apply for bursaries of €23,000.
Programme director Neil Thurman said: “With the growth of social media and online reporting, the boundaries of journalism are no longer restricted by geography.
‘There is increasing demand for journalists who have the ability to think, report and work on a global basis, for a global audience. We think the funding of this programme is significant as it recognises the value our international Degrees are offering the journalists of tomorrow.”
Course modules include globalisation, media and politics, business and finance journalism, and war and conflict.
