Financial Times Lombard column editor Dan Roberts was today named as
the Sunday Telegraph’s third City editor in the space of a year.
Roberts,
33, replaces George Trefgarne who is departing to “pursue other
interests”.
Trefgarne himself was appointed in October by previous
Sunday Telegraph editor Sarah Sands and replaced Robert Peston, who
left the paper to become business editor of the BBC.
Sunday Telegraph editor Patience Wheatcroft was formerly business editor of The Times and began her new job in April.
She
said: “Dan is a great acquisition for us. He is a brilliant,
award-winning journalist and undoubtedly one of the stars of his
generation.”
Roberts has worked at the FT since 2000 holding jobs
including telecom correspondent, industrial editor and US business editor,.
He started his career at the
Yorkshire Evening Press as a graduate trainee and moved to the
Birmingham Post as City correspondent in 1996. From 1998 to 2000 he was
a City reporter and business correspondent at The Daily Telegraph.
