The future of Freedom of Information in the UK: Debate at City University in London on 7 March at 6pm

By Press Gazette

UPDATE: The Government bowed to public pressure on Monday and announced that it will not be changing the Freedom of Information Act.

The emphasis of Monday's event will now be on discussing the implications of that announcement, how journalists can make the best use of the Act and how it can be strengthened.

As the future of the UK’s Freedom of Information Act hangs in the balance, City University is hosting an event to discuss the future of the law (sign up here).

The discussion is being held on Monday 7 March at 6pm.

The debate will be chaired by Press Gazette editor Dominic Ponsford.

The other speakers are:

  • FoI campaigner and journalist Heather Brooke

  • Guardian journalist Rob Evans (who secured the release of the Prince Charles letters to ministers)

  • Chief executive of the Taxpayer’s Alliance Jonathan Isaby.
