Teaching role for Jon Tarrant

By Press Gazette

British Journal of Photography editor Jon Tarrant has quit to teach physics at school in Jersey.

Tarrant, who has been at the BJP for ?ve years, said the news had been met with disbelief by friends and colleagues in the industry. “I’ll still be doing some writing but I had done everything I wanted to do as editor and was looking for other opportunities. It’s something that I’ve been considering for a while,” he told Press Gazette.

Tarrant has a degree in science and, although he has lectured before, has never taught in a classroom. He will start a teacher training course and observe lessons in the next four weeks.

Tarrant joined the BJP ?ve years ago as associate editor and took over as editor in 2000. He was previously editor of Professional Photographer.

The BJP is now looking for a new editor.
