Former staff members of the News Chronicle are commemorating the
45th anniversary of the closure of the paper on 17 October 1960.
About 25 of them are expected at a lunchtime reunion on 17 October, at the Witness Box in Tudor Street.
Previously called The Feathers, the pub was always known in Fleet Street as “the Chronicle pub”.
Sold
by its Cadbury-family owners with its sister paper, the London Evening
Star, the Chronicle was merged overnight with its rival, the Daily Mail.
Survivors from the editorial staff have attended annual reunions ever since.
This
year’s party is being organised by Betty Thomson, formerly Chronicle
reporter Betty Williams, who can be contacted on 020 8973 3825
