Trinity Mirror launching standalone website for ‘all things Dublin’

By John Reynolds

Trinity Mirror is launching a new standalone digital title in Ireland which it claims will be a “one-stop shop for all things Dublin”.

The launch of Dublin Live follows in the footsteps of Belfast Live which Trinity Mirror launched in February last year.

The new site, expected to launch in mid April, will be published from Mirror Media’s Ireland offices and is likely to have a team of fewer than ten journalists.

It will feature a mix of live breaking news, local sports, entertainment , events, local interest topics and listings as to what is going in the capital, said Trinity Mirror, who added that it would not be accompanied by a print launch.

Alana Fearon, editor of Dublin Live, said: “We want to be the voice of the city and platform for Dubliners to be proud of and share in. We’ll be encouraging readers to send in their videos and pictures on social platforms sharing the best of what a wonderful city has to offer.

“The team will focus on live breaking news and live blog from the big events happening across the city. We will have What’s On guides, reviews and so much more, bringing everything that’s happening in Dublin together on one dynamic website.”

According to Trinity Mirror, which also publishes the Irish Daily and Sunday Mirror print titles in Ireland, Belfast Live hit the one million unique user mark in July last year.

Joanne McGreevy, managing director of Mirror Media Ireland, said: “We’re very confident our new offering will quickly become the daily go-to website for users in Dublin and beyond.”
