By Press Gazette

The Surrey Advertiser has claimed that its campaign to save the main hospital in its patch has led to the announcement that all NHS services in the county under threat have been safeguarded.

Surrey Primary Care Trust announced that the future of The Royal Surrey County Hospital is secure.

Following rumours about Guildford hospital’s A&E department being earmarked for closure due to budget shortages, the Advertiser ran a series of pieces raising the profile of each department of the hospital.

Throughout the campaign, the Advertiser had obtained NHS research and comment into cutting services through both conventional methods such as the Freedom of Information Act and from leaks from within the health service.
