South London Press editor joins PCC code committee

The Press Complaints Commission has appointed Hannah Walker, editor-in-chief of the South London Press, to its editors code committee.

Walker joins the body which reviews the voluntary code of standards overseen by the PCC after being nominated by the Newspaper Society as a representative of the regional press.

The previous incumbent, former Scotsman editor Mike Gibson, left earlier this year.

His departure from the board followed his sudden departure from Johnston Press‘ flagship paper in February following a review of newsgathering and editorial across its three Edinburgh papers.

Paul Dacre, editor of the Daily Mail and committee chairman, said: “The committee’s strength lies in the very high quality of its members, drawn from across the British press.

“We are very pleased to welcome Hannah Walker, whose experience in the regional newspaper industry, both in South London and elsewhere, will be an asset.”

A second vacancy on the committee has arisen following the resignation of Neil Wallis as executive editor of the News of the World in May.

The PCC said his replacement would be announced in due course.
