The editor of the Romford Recorder has left the paper as part of a restructure of its publisher’s stable of East London titles.
Mark Sweetingham is understood to be the only senior editorial redundancy following Archant’s announcement last month that it was to re-organise its East London, Essex and Kent newsroom.
Sweetingham has been at the helm of the Romford Recorder for eight years and, last year, was tasked with developing a strategic plan for the paper.
Under the shake-up, three editor roles have been replaced with two executive editor positions, both reporting in to Malcolm Starbrook who will oversee all editorial operations across the titles.
Ilford Recorder editor Chris Carter will take charge of a team of reporters covering the Romford Recorder, Romford and Havering Post, Ilford Recorder and Archant’s Kent titles.
Mike Adkins, previously editor of the Barking and Dagenham Post, will take over a group covering that title along with the Newham Recorder and East London Advertiser.
Starbrook, who was previously editor-in-chief of all newspapers published from Archant’s Ilford office, will now have a “strategic role” under the restructure.
Editorial staff will now work for a range of titles within each of the two groups.
One editorial assistant role is also likely to be lost under the restructure.
