Newsquest has appointed one of its star editors to head up its Oxford newspapers, which comprise daily the Oxford Mail, weekly the Oxford Times and the weekly Herald series.
Samantha Harman will take on the new role from 11 June, leaving her current role as group editor for the regional publisher’s Berkshire and Buckinghamshire titles, including the Bucks Free Press.
Harman was named Newsquest’s Editor of the Year in 2017 and recently won a prize at its US parent company Gannett’s employee awards.
She said: “While I’m going to miss all the great people I’ve worked with at Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, it’s a real honour to become editor at Oxford and I’m looking forward to meeting the team and getting started.”
Newsquest editorial director Toby Granville added: “With her string of awards and huge success growing her online audience and stopping the rot with the sales figures, Sam’s proven to be an extremely talented editor. I’m sure she’s going to achieve great things at Oxford.”
Weekly the Bucks Free Press has a total circulation of 10,704 (including 2,000 free copies), according to ABC figures to the end of last year. The Oxford Mail has a daily paid-for circulation of 9,494.
